Senior UX Design Manager

Drove innovation in design operations, processes, methodologies, and consistency, and led high-impact design projects. I wore many hats, continually switching between leading design efforts, establishing process for content reviews, spearheading effective design management practices and overseeing development of a component library.

Feature Design Leadership

Oversaw and designed for critical value streams including Client Onboarding and Reports, continually focusing on cohesive and user-centric experiences.

Interactive Component Library

Led the creation of a robust interactive component library, dramatically enhancing design efficiency and consistency across all channels within the RBC Clear portal. Embedded interactivity enabled designers to deliver prototypes quickly, allowing for richer presentations and more authentic preview of the user's experience.

Enhanced Design Process

Collaborated on establishing an end-to-end process for design efforts and content reviews, and drove the creation of a Jira Design issue type, improving visibility and readiness for design review and development. The Jira issue structure vastly improved the management of ongoing design efforts.

Design Methodology Workshops

Conducted a series of transformative workshops that refined our design methods, improving the delivery of key components like Tables, Navigation, Modals, and other essential patterns.

The RBC Clear Relationship Management hub screen identifies next-steps for clients in the Onboarding process.

Senior UX Design Manager

Grew and managed a multi-disciplinary design team, leading several impactful projects including a client lifecycle management platform with multiple user journeys, user testing of a client onboarding application, and product/market-fit discovery initiatives. The new platform completely replaced a pre-existing onboarding system within 6 months.

Strategic Project Management

Managed project resourcing needs, defined role scope and expected outcomes for each assignment, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.

Hands-On Leadership

Acted as a 'player/coach', contributing directly to project work while guiding and mentoring the team, allowing for versatile load balancing in the team as well as leading by example.

Launched and Managed User Testing Efforts

Proposed and managed SVB's first-ever user testing involving bank clients in a live development environment, gathering valuable insights to inform design and development direction. Data from the user test corrected assumptions the product development team had and identified friction points that were under-estimated in development. The experience was not only important from a product value perspective, but was an excellent introduction to research for the team.

Design-Led Innovation

Created a culture of Design-led ideation and improvement in the Product Development workflow. An example is the proposal of an innovative pattern to handle document scans and uploads from a mobile device using a QR code.

Improved Operational Efficiency

Advanced the operation of design by overseeing the creation of a Design Component Library, the organization of Figma files as screen flow diagrams, and enabling a holistic approach to designing experiences using prototyping.

Designed experiences for Guidewire's flagship product, InsuranceSuite, led for the MVP development of Data Studio, and led full-scope projects involving all aspects of discovery and definition research, design and prototyping.

MVP Design & Development

Design lead for Data Studio, an MVP project for Guidewire clients to manage customer and business data. I led a team of three designers, producing designs, prototypes, and specs for PM feature definition and validation, as well as developer implementation. Additionally, I coordinated with UX research to conduct user tests using design prototypes.

A user creates a new Query in Data Studio, drags a data source in, then runs the Query to produce a table of results.

Tools & Operations assessment

Studied Guidewire's design tools, workflows, impacts and costs. Produced recommendations for changes to optimize production workflow and value.

Enhanced Component Library

Modernized the appearance of about 50 components in Guidewire's component library, improving the aesthetics and consistency of the components while also ensuring compliance with WCAG 2.0 AA standards.

Data Visualization Component

Created a DV Component based UX principles, and the Conclusion, Evidence and Data framework by Brian O'Neill. Advocated for the purpose-driven creation of visualizations based on research of the User Persona involved.
